Why do New Mexicans freakin love Bill Richardson so much?

Check out this campaign contribution breakdown for NM. I think I know who will win the primary there.

What did he do that was so great? Can someone from NM fill me in? Obv, it's natural to get the most support from your home state, but he's not even a top tier candidate and he's getting like 90% of the contributions.

Richardson raised more than Paul in Q3. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] He probably has a worse shot at the nomination, but at any rate, it's normal to lead your home state, Tommy Thompson leads Wisconsin, Fred Thompson owns Tennessee.

Makes sense considering till 2001, he was the governor since the Mesozoic Era.

I think its his whole demeanor. He gives off that Bush guy next door vibe, but at the same time you can tell he is serious business at the table of politics and governing. His record is also very impressive. Also in general i think people are very proud when "one of their own" has succeed so much and done so well.

I live in New Mexico. I didn't vote for him last go round. He's done some good things here though. He's lowered taxes and brounght in more industry which has created more jobs. He's also Hispanic as I believe about 1/3 of the state is. Lot of Democratic strongholds here in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Also if you are from New Mexico it is not that often that anybody from your state gets any sort of national attention. People from NY and California are used to it so are probably less likely to support somebody just because they are from their home state.
