New Line I have been trying: SB in three handed pot
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I am a long time poster on P5s and have logged over 500 hours of live play this year, on top of countless hours online, along with school and a part time job. I regularly play 8/16 at Casino AZ, and sometimes play 20/40, but that is a bit high for my bankroll at the time. Two weeks ago I played in Vegas at the Bellagio in their 15/30 game, which is the perfect size for my bankroll, and here is a play that seemed to work more times than not in my 15 hours spread over two sessions.
This play occurred frequently when a middle position player limps, I complete, and BB checks. Board comes three cards ten or lower, I check, BB checks, middle position almost automatically bets in this position. I then checkraise with a middle pair/no kicker type hand, or a wired pair below top pair, with the main purpose of getting the BB to fold an overcard or two. BB folds, limper calls. Then turn comes overcard, I check, limper checks behind. River blank, I check, and limper checks behind, and I showdown a weak winning hand. I know this isn’t the strongest play, but I feel it is a cheap way to get to a showdown against a weaker player, and I am obviously calling any bet on the river. Is this play super tight, or is it a reasonable play. I rarely get to do this in my 8/16 game, because it is a much looser game, but it seemed to work well in the 15/30, and I might try it at the Casino AZ 20/40. Comments please! |

kind of depends on the flop+turn texture but I almost always fire on the turn.

It is important to fire the turn in this spot. You most likely have the best hand and do not want to give free cards. But this is player dependent and checking the turn may be correct vs some opponents.

You REALLY have to bet the turn. Also, you can do this with air sometimes too.

I agree that it is best to bet the turn because you are often ahead and don't know exactly what the LP player has. when you check you give him
- a free chance to draw out - a chance to bluff - also most will correctly assume you don't have much when you check here Bet the turn and then make a good river decision based on the card that comes, any tells you pick up, and the type of player you are against. |

Re: New Line I have been trying: SB in three handed pot
I think the other issue with checking is that it gives lots of pairs and pps liscense to valuebet. Betting at them doesnt nessecarily give them liscense to valueraise, and I think that players will generally make the mistake of not valueraising or even of folding the best hand when you bet.
If you check the biggest mistake that they can make is not valubetting, and given the line you took I can tell you that's not a mistake that many people are prone to making. It also puts you in a position to make the mistake of calling with the worst hand, or not checkraising when you have the best one. |

You have to bet this turn, you're ahead well over 50% of the time, and when you're behind, you're not saving any bets unless you're check/folding the turn which is I think a terribly weak line.
My standard line with a middle pair in this spot is C/R the flop, bet the turn, bet all but the absolute scariest of rivers. |

You are missing a lot of value and pots by not betting the turn.
