How tough is the PokerStars $1000+50 quarterly(?) tournament, compared to their regular $200+15 weekly Sunday tournament.

IMO. The 215 tournament plays like a 10+1 or maybe even a 5+.50.

The 1K will play significantly harder.

Running it on New Year’s Eve should make it harder still. The wealthy recreational players who might otherwise play a $1000 online tourney will mostly have other plans on that day.

The tournament starts at 4:30EST, so that is 1:30PM on the west coast. I think there will be decent turnout. Cashing big in this would give you a 2nd reason to go out and party that night.

How would it compare to WSOPME?

How much does the field toughen up as the field shrinks?
