I reccomend going to an army surplus store, and picking up a good pea coat, blue or black, black goes with more. you can pull it off with all kinds of things.

He's in New Englad, right? Depending on what he's looking to wear it for it may not be warm enough.

As far as the University jacket, I don't mind it being plain because you can jazz it up w/ whatever you're wearing underneath or a scarf (if you're into that)

I haven't read any responses yet, so forgive me if I am repeating anything. Your question is far too vague. A jacket is like any other article of clothing in that one size will never fit all. For instance, wearing a North Face jacket to a black-tie event or a blazer while skiing would be silly. Tell us about what you will be wearing your jacket to and you will get better advice.

You need to be more specific. A warm overcoat, a casual jacket, a waterproof coat for the rain, etc etc etc...and that doesn't even go into what type of price range you want.

But given your height, you probably want a jacket that just covers your ass or extends beyond. Anything shorter will make you look tiny.
