Default Flop straight vs bad player; Bd pairs turn. My action?

Villain is 47/16/1.7 and has a 22% showdown percentage in 91 hands.
He's the reason I'm at the table.
I've been playing at the table for a couple of orbits and haven't done too much out of the ordinary.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) Full Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB ($99.05)
UTG ($72.50)
UTG+1 ($19.95)
MP1 ($49.90)
MP2 ($25.50)
Hero ($50)
CO ($52.40)
Button ($113.75)
SB ($20.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, MP1 calls $0.50, MP2 checks, Hero calls $0.50, CO calls $0.50, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($3) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(6 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">BB bets $1</font>, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $5</font>, CO folds, SB folds, BB calls $4.

Turn: ($13) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
BB checks, Hero??

Do I bet here and try and protect my hand/get money from this bad player who I wanted to play against?

Or do I be conservative and check?
Thanks.

Make it like $9 on the flop. There's no way someone this bad lays down even the worst of combo draws here.

As played, bet liberally on turn. No need for MUB-syndrome, you have a friggin' straight, albeit the ignorant one, and your opponent is not showing any real strength. Very unlikely 9 helped him.
