I'm saying that if he didn't release all of the chips and then pull his hand back, it's going to be a mess. For most people you know that a bet is a bet, and for others you know to wait for them to finish. In the OP's case, he should have waited. To be on the safe side, when you don't know people, always wait. Sure, maybe it's legally a bet, but you waste more time and money when it becomes an issue like this - not to mention irritating fish - than you save by insta-calling all those other times.
