Default Dead Hand?

You're playing Omaha8. Its the river and you've bet and called all the way. As you're looking at the sizable pot, you realize you were only dealt 3 cards. Is your hand dead?

Probably not. Your hand is fouled (a fouled hand MAY be decalred dead). I would impound this pot (briefly) and verify that the deck is correct and you were in fact dealt only 3 cards. I am ruling this hand dead if it appears you discarded a duplicate card or if you mucked the fourth card to avoid shoing your starting hand.

The above is true, if RR is your floorman.

If it's anybody else, expect the hand to be declared dead.

(And that doesn't mean that RR is wrong.)

With all the action, there's no chance of declaring a misdeal. So yeah, this seems to make perfect sense, especially if the player was on the button.

Of course Robert's Rules (not to be confused with Randy Refeld's Rules) says...
"Dead Hands: The hand does not contain the proper number of cards for that particular game."

Hard and fast rule guys would say "dead hand" but this particular player was really playing at a disadvantage to bigin with unless he did something like Randy indicated, so I still like RR's fix in this situation.

Still expect nitty arguments from the losers of the hand if this guy ends up winning.

edit: If you mention my name you have to spell it right. -RR

Is this just a theoretical question? If not, how much alcohol did you drink that night?

I can name at least a dozen or so floormen that may get it right.

Although technically it may be declared dead if I was ever a floorman I would probably rule it OK since the player was at a big disadvantage having one less card and he still made a hand that he bet to the river. The unique circumstances here justify this ruling.
