Off Topic — Cool story IMO

So, most of POG knows I'm a sportswriter, and some of POG has read some of my stories. I've always enjoyed the "get to know a POGger better" threads and threads of the like. So I figured I'd share a story I wrote today that to me is pretty cool. Enjoy.

College volleyball was one of the most enjoyable events I attended at PSU. My buddies and I used to go to almost every women's AND men's home matches. It helped that PSU was consistently in the top 10 in the country, but I was always amazed at how much fun I had at the matches.

The third option is a bad headline because it leaves the reader clueless as to what the story is about. The first headline is similar because it doesn't say "volleyball" in it, although a volleyball graphic in the story would help that.

I don't even get the second one.

Not trying to be mean, just explaining why the headline is what it is.

Penn State's teams are awesome. The Bryce Jordan Center rocks, too ... I was just there in March for PIAA boys basketball Class AAA final (Greencastle-Antrim is in my coverage area).

They actually don't play at the BJC. That's reserved for basketball. Volleyball matches were held at Rec Hall which is at the opposite end of campus, which worked out perfectly because our dorm was literally right across the street from it.

Oh. Yeah I should have known that, Maryland used to play its volleyball matches at Ritchie Coliseum, now it's in the Comcast Center pavillion (secondary gym).

Volleyball doesn't get enough love, although I was quite surprised to see PSU on ESPN2 against Minnesota a couple weeks ago. I think it was Minnesota. Either way it was a beatdown. I'll have to check to see if they are going to be on again in the future.
