A random animal is more innocent than a random human because of the gap in intelligence.
It is the same reason that it would be much harder to kill a small child than an adult. The same reason it would be harder to kill a mentally handicapped person than an adult. The child, the mentally disabled and the animal are not capable of understanding what is happening and why. All there is for them is the suffering. At least an intelligent adult, although obviously will suffer. has the mental awareness to understand that the world is a horrible place, people are capable of great evil and that these things happen. It won't make it any better for them, but it would make me more comfortable killing the adult given they can rationalize what is going on. |
