Some peeps will be embarrassed if you talk with them about their problem (gambling, drugs or whatever else) and just want to continue on self destruct mode.

Simmilar alcohol addict related story:

Ar relative of mine had a smal kiosk in germany, which also sold booze. These places attract alcoholics, which are basically hanging around and drinking in front of the joint. It is more or less the only place for them to socialize at relatively low cost (compared to a bar).

As the guy running the place you know your customers quite well since they come every day to tell you their story again ... and again ... gimme another vodka ... and again ...

So this one guy is a regular and comes every day ... buying the very same booze in small overprized 0.1 or 0.2 l bottles again and again.

My relative knows that the guy is in dept and feels pity for him. Knowing that he is not stopping to drink anyway he suggests to get a bigger bottle at the supermarket just over the street for something like 30%-50% of the price (per liter).

The guy did never show up again (but was frequently seen at a different kiosk nearby).

Fish lost ... problem not solved.
