Re: Any Atlantic City Poker Dealers Here?
Hello AC casino folks who replied (and any who didn't for that matter). I have a decent shot of moving to Philly in the new year for a job opportunity. I have wanted to get into dealing for a while but was not close enough to a casino to really consider it but in Philly that will change.
From what I can tell in other areas, casinos either look to dealers who are trained by outside schools (most of whom offer job placement assistance) or they train from within. Is there an overwhelming preference in AC either way? If it's the former, what local schools are best? If it's the latter, what casinos are best for novices to get hired and trained? Also, in an ideal world, I would like to deal part time - I will have a 9-5 job but will have evenings and weekends totally free. Is this an option or are dealers only full-time (or at least for those starting out)? I can offer a ton of references from local charity and "casino nights" companies (I work part time for several in Columbus) and also have a ton of retail/restaurant experience; I am not naive enough to think that this kind of experience alone prepares me for a casino gig but it might be enough to at least show that I am not a complete novice. Thanks for any assistance! |

Re: Any Atlantic City Poker Dealers Here?
Who do you know? I work for several companies around here. I don't see how this is bad - it beats zero experience and they can all vouch for my reliability, knowledge of the game(s) and ability to deal with people who range from bored and experienced to completely clueless and hammered...

[/ QUOTE ] They are all a little sketchy. I don't think I would want to rely on any of them to give a reference. I'm not going to mention them here, but I used to manage a poker club on high street (it is ancient history) and know most of the people involved in running the charitiy games in Columbus. |

Just a heads up. |

[/ QUOTE ]Okay, now I understand - we're talking about different people. The people I work for are more the "Casino Nights" things - parties with "fun" gambling that doesn't involve real money, that sort of thing. I don't know how long you've been away (are you in Columbus still?) but the sleazy pseudo-charity folks that had a lot of action here have pretty much dried up since Gov. Taft decided to crack down on poker games - charity and even the free ones in bars (I used to run one of those as well). Anyway, all of this is kinda off-topic so feel free to PM me if you wanna talk Cowtown poker (or lack thereof)... |
