Re: \"when your opponent has A-high on the river, you should probably bet\"
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The board paired kings on the river. I can't believe that Gold would (a) think Doyle would lay down on the river and (b) think that he made some sort of world-class play. Oooh, you made a value bet with ace-high. You are just awesome. [/ QUOTE ] I was more surprised that he continued to try and run bluffs on world-class players after after Brunson called him with A-high and won. Specifically, the horrible river bet against Negraneau when Gold held 54s. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that was an absolutely horrid play. An 8 came on the river, made no str8, no flush, and there were 3 overcards to the 8. It was the most non-threatening card that coulda come. What can you represent there? What pressure can you put on someone with a 1/4-1/3 PSB, which is about what he bet it seemed? It's not a value bet, not a bluff, not really a blocking bet either. Daniel's reaction was priceless. It was like "yeah, another goofy bet" |

I noticed how all you JG haters conveniently managed to not mention his sick A3o limp reraise versus Brunson's late position limpers squeeze. He made Doyle lay down faster than a whore on pay day.
What. |

What. [/ QUOTE ] I assume that's because most people didn't believe that he thought Doyle was weak, but that Doyle was making a play and he only wanted to make one play on Doyle (just like he said after the hand). A risky play imho with three limpers left to act to Doyle's raise. |

Oh good, another thread to bash Jamie Gold in. Not enough of these. [/ QUOTE ] Better than the 10,000 different (but still the same) netteller threads. |

He never claimed to be one of the best players, so I don't get where all this hate comes from.

[ QUOTE ]
He never claimed to be one of the best players, so I don't get where all this hate comes from. [/ QUOTE ] Not in so many words, no. "ESPN called it one of the 5 greatest accomplishments in sports history." "What I've done for poker - it's something no-one has even come close to doing before." "...Bobby Hoff - maybe the greatest cash player in the world. He is constantly beating me, and he loves that because I'm beating everyone else at the table." "I caused the tournament to finish a day early 'cause I got everybody playing so fast. They were all so scared. The whole tournament changed based on my play." "Chan isn't giving me advice - he's telling me I'm the most natural player that he's ever seen." On Alan Cunningham: "My style screwed him up so badly - he was shaking, he was nervous, I had him completely figured out." Quoting Norman Chad: "I gotta be honest with you, it was the greatest display of poker talent I've ever seen, and I've seen everything. Nobody's ever put on a show like that in the history of poker." Quoting Negreanu: "Oh man, If I could only play like this kid was playing." "Nobody can figure me out. I'm thinking about challenging [Phil Hellmuth]. I'd like to challenge at least Phil, if not all the talkers, we should all play a heads-up match, we should put up a million dollars of our own cash." |

That leaves out alot too, his final table comments of
(to paraphrase) "I can't play any better than this. I just can't play any better than this." "I trapped him! See I totally trapped him! woo" |
