Default 1/2 22A

On 5th my plan was to check/fold, but then when we got HU I decided I could probably chase because the pot was pretty big and there was a good chance that villain only had a pair. On 6th I started to fear I'd have to make aces up and fade the straight even if I did catch.

BTW, based on the way he's beein playing, seat 5 has split KK like 90% of the time here.

Lead the river, fold to a raise.

You most likely have the best hand...bet it. Most of his straight cards are dead (2 A's, 2 J's, 2 9's), so he'd have to hit perfect to make it.

...I guess trips is a possibility as the 8's, 10's, & Q's seem to be live.

Yeah, I'm terrible at river play in this game. I agree that there is NO reason to check here- I was afraid of monsters under the bed (and I am terrible at folding to re-raises with aces up).

However, what I'm most concerned with is how I got there. I can improve my river play and increase my expectation a little, but knowing when to stop chasing will affect my expectation a lot.

only reason to check the river here is if you're going for a check/raise

I think 5th is a fold. You raised, then led the whole way and he takes the lead and bets out on 5th. All you have is a pair of 2s.

The pot isnt all that big....you are getting something like 5 to 1 to make the call on 5th...there are 41 unknown cards, 5 of which make a hand you like (two 2s and 3 aces), so it is about 8 to 1 to catch, and that doesnt mean you will necessarily win. Even though its an overcard, catching a K wont help you if he made Kings up so you really just have the aces for your clean overcard outs.

Just move on IMO, unless you think you can take the pot away from him if you hit a heart on 6th.

Monsters under the bed will pop out and raise you on the river and you can safely fold, don't miss value by checking.
