Re: NY/NY shooting in Vegas
Normally I rarely see any police on the strip, but was just down there (7/1-7/5) and there was a number of cops on the south end of the strip. I was actually surprised to see as many as I did walking from MGM to PH after midnight.

I've never seen them on the Mirage side of the street. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I will note two thing......#1.) I would avoid trouble on the strip, even if it means backing down and running away. This is because you will not get police response. Police presence on the strip on weekends is minimal at best. Anyway, how would they get through the traffic? [/ QUOTE ] Not disputing your advice, but it seems like there are more cops on the strip on weekends. I've seen them on mountain bikes and horses, so they can get through the traffic. Vegas allows concealed weapon carry with permit. Does anyone know how the casinos feel about it? [/ QUOTE ] yes how do they feel? [/ QUOTE ] This was covered in a thread a long while ago. Concealed carry is legal in public places in NV if you have a permit unless they post signs at every entrace saying otherwise, and that includes casinos. I've never seen a "no firearms allowed" sign at any casino, but someone claimed to have seen one I think at NYNY (of all places). A couple folks didn't like this and INSISTED that it had to be illegal or at least against casino policy. So I ventured down to a couple security desks and asked 'em. The answer from Sahara was "check your gun with us when you come in--we'll keep it safe while you're in the casino". The answer from Caesars was "well...we'd REALLY prefer you didn't" but when I pressed 'em on what that meant, the answer was that it's actually acceptable. |

[/ QUOTE ] This was brought up on another forum I often visit and most casinos apparently will hold onto the firearm until your done playing. The fact is, there are a lot of wealthy people who want to protect themselfs and the casino wants their money. Also people with the permits are apparently less likely to commit a crime than the police are One guy (who wrote on the forum) said he was playing stud and his gun was showing by accident. The casino floor person came over to him and told him to conceal it better for the guests. The casino also understands that no sign or policy is going to stop crime. We can make all the laws we want, but people will still be a-holes. Also, do NOT depend on the police.... if you notice someone is following you or looking at you .... head for a VERY public area and make some noise if necessary. So many people think the police will protect them but what they are really good at is taking the pictures of your dead body. It only takes a minute for a serious crime to happen and atleast 5-10 mins for them to respond. Watch your surroundings.... |

Re: NY/NY shooting in Vegas
I live in Baltimore. There ain't [censored] Vegas could do to scare me. Where does Vegas come in on the "most violent crime" per capita scale? Detroit and Baltimore have been fighting it out for the number 1 spot. Does Vegas even register?

Re: NY/NY shooting in Vegas
I know Richmond VA used to be number 5. It is all based on per-capita .... so while the larger places have MUCH more crime, they may not have that much more compare to the population.
I believe Washington D.C. is still the worst. |

Re: NY/NY shooting in Vegas
[ QUOTE ]
There have been multiple kidnappings on the strip that are not reported by the media [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Less high profile stuff is kept quiet and not reported. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] There have been TONS of other violent cimes involving guns and assaults that go unreported by the media, and in some instances not reported to police. [/ QUOTE ] Indulge in hyperbole much? Tell me, did you hear that tree fall in the forest even though you weren't there and it was never reported? Funny stuff you wrote above, truly it is. I have a non-resident CCW permit for Nevada, legally concealed firearms are allowed in every casino I have visited and over the years that includes pretty much every strip and downtown casino. Never had any problem with any security personell at all. I keep my weapon in the room safe unless I plan on traveling at night then store my weapon locally until my next trip to town. Never needed it yet and hope to never brandish it in public but the sense of security is worth all the requirements. Jimbo |

[/ QUOTE ] That's an interesting idea. One of the reasons I haven't gotten a non-resident permit is the hassle of having to check luggage on every trip (I always take carry-ons). Is the local storage something that anyone might be able to use and that you care to talk about publically? |

Re: NY/NY shooting in Vegas
Try here:
4610 Blue Diamond Road Las Vegas, NV 89139 702-386-4867 I keep mine at a friends home in town. You might also ask the gyus here on the strip but I don't think they have a storage facility: THE GUN STORE 2900 E Tropicana Las Vegas, Nevada 89121 702-454-1110 At the very least you should go to the above and rent/fire a machine gun upon ocassion!! Better than tilting after a bad beat. Jimbo |
