I'm kind of peeved we're eating at noon this year when we have to drive an hour to get there.

I say the earlier the better. Then you can just nap, watch football, eat, nap, etc all day long.

I guess thats true. We usually leave around 4 or so, so if I am home earlier I am stoked.

EDF Chefs:

I have a couple of favorite desserts that I enjoy making. One is a standard cheesecake, and the other is a key lime pie. I am considering combining them this year, but I don't want to make a single recipe of each and just mix them together, as that will just be too much. I'm looking for suggestions on how to alter one/both so I can just fold the key lime filling into the cheesecake batter.

Cheesecake:
3 - 8 oz packages cream cheese
1.25 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 pint sour cream
1 cup whipping cream

KLP:
3 egg yolks
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2/3 cup lime juice

---

Eyeballing the total volume, my inclination is to leave the KLP recipe as is, and reduce the sugar in the cheesecake recipe to .5 cup, remove 2 eggs and all of the sour cream.

What do y'all think?

i usually cook for 6-7 on thanksgiving who are huge foodies. this year, we're seating 18 people who can all cook. Less cooking for me and more time drinking and hitting on my friend's cousin!

Preliminary Menu -- pics to come:

- Bacon/maple glazed turkey
- 2 day marinated pork shoulder (puerto rican based rub)
- yukon mashed potatos (butter, heavy cream) with skin on
- portugese sausage / sweetbread stuffing
- butternut squash soup
- vichisoisse (starter course)
- apps (outsourced / unknown)
- port and fig cranberry sauce
- orange juice based cranberry sauce
- green beans (outsource)
- root vegetables (outsource)
- mesculun, duck breast, cranberry, toasted almond salad
- pumpkin pie (outsourced)
- pecan pie (outsourced)
- vanilla bean bourbon whipped cream

3 bottles Veuve Cliquot
6 bottles Ridge Geyserville Zinfandel (might switch out for beaujolais cru)
6 bottles Bin 389 Cab/Shiraz
2 bottles '01 Silver Oak (perfect excuse to open my bottles and get something new)
2 cases Sierra Nevada
2 cases Stella Artois
Grappo / cognac / Oban or Mac 12
Coffee

1 maid coming on Saturday!

Sapo,

I've used that brine recipe for the last few years and it always works out great.

Good Eats turkey

More on brining: http://bbq.about.com/cs/turkey/a/aa110103a.htm

I brine a 10-12 pound turkey overnight.

My 15 year old daughter and I will be getting up at approximatly 9am, leaving at 10am to drive from Kingman to Phoenix. We will meet my Mom and her new husband at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, enjoy a scrumptious (ie expensive) buffet and then head to the Sun Devil Stadium in order to cheer on our Devils vs. USC.

Once we win, we'll take the husband and daughter to the hotel and then Moms and I will be going clubbing to celebrate our invite to the Rose Bowl.

(All of this if the day is perfect, ldo)

I plan on driving around to find a Mexican place and then getting a California Burrito.

I have no family out here, which is fine because I hate Thanksgiving anyway. I don't eat any of the food.
