Default The Effect Playing TAG Has on Games

Most 1/2 to 3/6 games I enter are loose to very loose. When I play TAG in theses games it seems like they usually tighten up at least 15-20 percent average number of players to the flop, in a matter of, on average, 10 to 30 minutes. Any ideas why? Is this just my imagination?

You're not the only one looking out for the juicy games. The ones with a high percentage of players to the flop will attract all the other TAGs as well, turning a loose table into a tight one.

The games might not be as loose as you thought they were, they just might have been going through a loose phase. Additionally, you have entered the game, which reduces the number of players to the flop two ways. First, you don't see the flop as often, and secondly, if you are raising preflop, you eliminate the chance for other people to see the flop cheaply, and unless they are complete maniacs, most players see less flops for two bets than for one.

I even see this effect at my live card room. There will be four 6/12 tables running, they call me and plop me down at one, and my scouting says it's the worst. I put in for a move to "the best", and find out that I'm 3rd on the list to move to that table....and I know the two guys moving over, and they're both "better than average". Sure enough, by the time I get there, the table isn't nearly as tasty as when I first "scouted" it.

As for Bob's comment, he's completely right. Just one person playing tightly and raising PF can reduce the stats very substantially. It's like American League baseball...sure it's only one DH, but in some cases it's David Ortiz hitting instead of Tim Wakefield.

Amen and God bless the Canterbury Cold Callers (CCC's) This is my little made up nick name for certain regular loose/passive players at the Park who will always call a preflop raise, or even 3 bet, no matter their position, cards in hand or the fact that you haven't played a hand in 45 minutes.
God bless them and the huge pots they build for my powerhouse hands!
