i went to the pawsox last night, gabbard's start. timlin pitched and didnt look very sharp, most of his pitches missed location and the strikes he did get (under 50%, i forget exact balls:strikes) seemed like AAA hitters chasing. i'm not excited about his return.

ellsbury was impressive, even in a so-so game. he's so fast its ridiculous.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. It was 10 balls to 7 strikes. (And this can be misleading because if you chase a ball, it becomes a strike.) Hopefully he gets his command back quickly in Pawtucket or his time with the big club could be ugly.

awesome at-bat by pedroia. hits the 12th pitch over the left-field wall for a homer.

I really wish it was October now, this team is playing so well. Also... its starting to look like Pedroia should be given a shot at leading off. Coming into today hes hitting .273 with a .360 OBP which includes a .365/.421 May after a .182/.308 April. Compare that with Lugo's .228/.292.

Another gem by the Sox for a win. Youk grinds out a hit, steals 2nd, Drew ties the game with a 2B, Lowell gets him in, Coco makes a 2 run saving diving web-gem, Pedroia gets a heroic HR that makes all the difference as Okey gets the save and Pap gets rest.

Wow, on fire!

And my man Tavares gives them 5 innings of one hit no runs, ahem, we won't mention the 6th.

some updated math: if the Sox go .500 the rest of the year, they will win 90.5 games. for the Yankees to get that many wins, they will need to go .610 the rest of the way, which is the equivalent of a 99 win (out of 162) season.

the likely outcome is that the Sox do better than .500 AND the Yankees do worse than .610 from here on out; basically the division is ours, save for serious injury problems.

I consider myself an optimistic Red Sox fan, but the division is ours when the Magic Number reaches 0.
