The proper proof is
0.99999... = 9/10 + 9/100 + 9/1000 + ... = sum( 9/10^i ), over i = 1 to infinity = sum( 9/10 * 1/10^i ), over i = 0 to infinity = (9/10) / (1 - 1/10), the sum of a geometric series = (9/10) / (9/10) = 1 [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] |
