Well personally I think it is a very good idea for some people (especially those who, like me, are lacking the looks department) but one problem I foresee is that I am afraid of having conversations with strangers over the phone. What if I blurt out something stupid and blow my one chance at having a true "connection" with the man or woman of my choice?? I would be devastated. So while personally I cannot see myself pursuing this particular path to friendship, I think that for those with a little more confidence in their own ability to attract someone over the phone it would be a great idea.
