Get 2 7900GTs in SLI or 1 7900GTX 512??? (both about the same price)
Which would you buy if you could get either setup for around the same price (which you can right now)...
Which is better now and will be better for the future... Two NVIDIA 7900GTs in SLI or One 7900GTX 512mb? Is SLI really a lot better than having just 1 graphics card??? Of particular interest is how well each setup would drive 1 or 2 of the 30-inch Dell monitors... (Yes, TWO 30 inchers on your desk, not a Typo!) For those who don't know, the 7900GTX has double the memory of 1 7900GT, and it is around a 180-200 MHz core clock speed faster than 1 7900GT (depending on which vendor you buy from). They also clock the memory a bit faster in the GTX... |

Re: Get 2 7900GTs in SLI or 1 7900GTX 512??? (both about the same pric
From
this guide from something awful forums , * Dual 6600GTs or 6800s are both slower and significantly more expensive than a single 6800GS. * Dual 6800GTs or 6800Us are slower and more expensive than dual 6800GS's or 7800GTs respectively. That leaves the 6800GS, 7800GT, and 7800GTX as good candidates for SLI. However: * Dual 6800GS's (~$400) should perform about the same as a single 7800GTX ($459), but you'll have to deal with extra noise, increased power draw, and the price premium for an SLI motherboard. * Dual 7800GTs and 7800GTXs are between $600 and $1000, which is prohibitively expensive to most people. So, in essence, you probably shouldn't bother with SLI. Unless you're made of money or you feel like experimenting with dual 6800GS's, you'll be better served by a single card. |

I bet NVIDIA would sure love it if all of their customers bought 2 of their cards instead of 1 though...
