Glenview is a Northwest burb about 40 miles away. It will take about an hour to get there, longer if traffic is bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

The traffic on that drive is "not bad" on Saturday at 7 AM, otherwise during a normal day or evening it will take SIGNIFICANTLY longer. Check out the POT listed in some other posts, straight drive up one highway instead of going through downtown Chicago.

I agree

I update the Chicago Poker Room Guide for Chicago Poker Club. www.cardclubs.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=165 . Being in Glenview you might want to check out Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee. Resorts is your best bet for 20-40 but I hear Potawatomi is now running one. The rake is better there and you can call to find out if they spread the games you like. Rockford Charitable Games runs events close to where you are staying. GOOD LUCK!

Chicago Joe, you rock! Thanks for all your hard work.

If you want to play 10-20 or 20-40, Resorts is your best bet.

The Majestic Star is right nearby there but the biggest limit I've ever seen going was 5-10 on a Friday night. They have mostly 1-2 and 2-5 NL.

Potawatomi in Milwaukee offers 20-40 but I don't know how often it goes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is there usually a waiting list for those games?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes but you can call an hour ahead and the wait is never usually too bad

[/ QUOTE ]

Is there usually a list during the week, on a Tuesday night?

It's true that that drive will take a while during anything remotely near the workday. But for the record, from some points northwest, you might be better off taking I-294 (toll) south, which becomes I-80 east than going through the city. This is much less likely to be true, I think, outside of construction season.

Google thinks it's 65 miles that way from Glenview, slightly shorter distance-wise than going to the Pot, but almost 20 miles longer than going through the city. So, pick your poison, I suppose. I used to commute down that stretch of I-294, and traffic is much smoother on average, save a small spot around O'Hare, than the Kennedy, Edens and Ryan.

yeah. i am from chicago, and i used to make the drive to east chicago...

if you're anywhere up in the NW burbs, take 294 around the city. the distance is slightly more, but the time is worth it. downtown is ALWAYS bad unless its 2am and even then it can be bad.

i never got to play at potawatomi. i suspect it is a pretty decent place. it may be worth your time to go there instead.

i agree that hollywood sucks, but i played there a lot as well because it was 15 minutes away.

Almost never. As soon as Poto got NL ($200-$600 3/5) the higher stakes limit games pretty much died. It is unlikely they'll have anything higher than 6-12 running.

294 at the Touhy Toll is pretty bad right now due to contruction.

Has anyone played the new Sunday tournament at Resorts? My wife and I are thinking of driving down on Sunday to play it.

live in N burbs a few mins north of Glenview....got to Majestic/Resorts a lot...I-294 "Tri State" toll gets pretty bad south bound after 2PM about during the week & around Touhy/OHare there is typically a bit of a slowdown, however, if you are going to East Chicago/Gary (Resorts/Majestic), in my opinion, the fastest way to go is I-294 south to I-55, Chicago exit, east to the Dan Ryan I-90/I-94, Indiana exit. Now, the Dan Ryan is under construction, but you are only on it for about 3 or 4 miles before exiting to the Chicago Skyway. The Skyway is a short toll way connecting to the Illinois Tollway. U exit the Indiana tollway on Cline Avenue & follow the billboards from there a few miles. Tip: get the Illinois I-Pass from a local Jewel food store. It now works on Illinois and Indiana tollways, and the privately owned Skyway. Save you a lot of time.

Forget about southbound Edens Expressway connecting N SHore burbs w/Dan Ryan. Southbound lanes clog very early in the day with the "reverse commute" and then funnels you right into the worst part of the Dan Ryan Construction.

ya, echo others: Hollywood Aurora 10/20 and 20/40 only if you have to go there and don't mind unbelievable wait for table...Resorts 10/20, 20/40 limit, and 5/10 NL is jacked up...Majestic best for Monday/Wednesday rebuy tourneys & also a good 5/10 NL 1K max game.

To ChicagoJoe and PaceCar: I keep getting conflicting opinions on Majestic Star and Resorts. 1) Which one is best for 2/5 and why? 2) Which one is best for 5/10 and why? I am flying into Chicago Monday at noon and driving directly to one of these places to play. (note: i have seen ChicagoJoe's Chicago Poker Club forum on the rooms as well). Are both places full of rocks, grinders, loose money? Again, this is only going to happen about once a year. I may only get to play a few hours into the early evening but definitely would like to make a few dollars. Thanks again for both of your inputs.
