Default The origin of the Rickroll

At first, I noticed people using the word rickroll constantly in threads, and had no idea what they were talking about. After listening to that Rick Astley song dozens of times in the past few days, I now understand what a rickroll is.

I'm not satisfied though. Where did this originate? Where did the word "rickroll" come from? Why Rick Astley? Why is this song so unbelievably catchy?

I feel like I'm way out of the loop on the boards without this knowledge

Rickrolling has been bouncing around the internet for a while. It's first appearance on 2+2 was here.

Rickrolling outside of the lifestyle forums has gotten out of hand, it might be funny in BBV but it makes me cringe everything I get stung in other forums like NVG.

Kipin first introduced it in IRC IIRC. It's really his fault.

As the NVG mod, I am totally allowing rickrolling. If only because it's a nice, non leathal way to make people think twice about the links they're clicking. Better a rockin song than a keylogger or something.

I'm not sure what a 'keylogger' is but if it's anything like the Goatseman, then I get you.

I don't think it was me in IRC. But maybe it was.

Either way I brought attention to the ABUSIVE MOD POWER of the Rickroll.

False! I brought it to 2+2 and kipin went off in ATF about it, which caused the craze on the forum.

Also, Durron has been relentless with it.
