Default Mandalay would rather refuse my action than give me an open seat?

Curious how others think about this situation. I'm being nitty but reasonable IMO, I'm surprised the floor acted this way.

6PM at Mandalay Bay. One 1/2 table in the back is full, table 1 has 1 open seat and a number of large, wild stacks. I've liked what I've seen in the 3-4 hands I've scouted. Table 2 has 6 players, each with no more than $120 or so, and seem to be tight and apprehensive. Nothing's going on over there.

I go back to the front, the brush comes up and I point to the open seat on table 1 and say "I'd like to sit there, please." He walks and checks table 2, and says "actually, come right this way, sir, there's a seat for you here."

Me: No thanks, I'd like to take this seat.
Him: I can't give you that seat when this table has too many open seats.
Me: There's no money on that table (2). I won't play if I can't have that seat (at table 1).
Him: I can't put you there right now.
Me: Fine (leaves).

Was I being reasonable? Was he being reasonable? I understand his point, but why should I have to suffer in a tiny, nitty game when there's an open seat in a big, wild game just because the tight game is SH? Is it really better to call my bluff and send me away than accept my patronage with less table balance? He may be afraid table 2 will break, but it's going to break regardless of whether I'm at table 1 or at the craps table.

edit: This thread has been locked. He asked a question and the procedure has been explained. I don't see where allowing people to "pile on" serves any purpose. -RR

This is standard and the only thing to do. All those players at table two are ahead fo your for table 1. YOu take the seat on table 2 and get on the table change list. If 2 fills you can go to 1.

Very standard line from the floor, you seem like a nit

Lets say you were on of the nits at table two, how would you feel if someone just walked in and sat at table one? You would be mad as they should be filling your game up

I'm not. He was doing his job. It's not fair to put you in a full game when a short game deserves those players first.

Yes, as mentioned, this is standard. The floor also has to deal with the 6 people at the shorthanded table. Someone at the short-handed table will most likely see him seating you at the full table, at which point the short table will start going ape sh*t.

Eh, didn't think about those guys. Sorry.

FWIW, Table 2 didn't look like a must move, it looked like some guys had just gotten up. It didn't look like any of them wanted the seat on 1.

Never mind then. I'm still glad I didn't sit, though. Crappy situation, I guess, but there was no way I was wasting time at that table. Wasn't worth it.

Don't see how my thoughts are unreasonable. I should be happy to sit in a SH game full of short stacked nits paying full rake just for the chance to sit down at a better table God knows when?

I'll concede that it may be the standard and "right" thing to do, but don't see why I should be happy about it or even play if it doesn't suit me.

Its not that your unreasonable for wanting to play at the fuller game. Its that your unreasonable for believeing that your preference is the most important factor.

Who said you had to be happy about it or play there? Your complaining about it is unreasonable.
