Default B&M 3/6 Top 2 Pair - Turn raise

B&M 3/6 game, most LP. Villian here had just joined the table. He was very talkative, and seemed aggressive, but had not shown down anything yet.

I am UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I raise. A couple of calls, Villian on button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet, 1 call, folded to villain who calls, BB folds.

Turn: [A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I bet, fold, villain raises, I ???

Given the general read that the villain looks aggressive, is this a 3 bet or a call down?

I like calling and leading the river. You don't seem sure that is actually aggressive. If you could say definatively that you've seen him play several weak hands very aggresively a turn 3-bet might be in order. I don't think you've be giving up too much if you did decide to three bet though.

I'd 3bet and go into call down mode if 4bet.

I'm guessing that it's highly unlikely that he's calling a preflop raise with 25 so I'm not worried about the straight. 33 is possible (and might just be smooth called on this not too drawy a flop); perhaps he chased to turn with 44. Maybe QQ but wouldn't aggressive player 3bet this preflop? But aren't all those just monsters under the bed? Until told otherwise by a 4bet, I'm thinking more likely A3, A4, maybe a split pot AQ or even just an A or big pocket pair.

Aren't we more likely to 3bet an aggressive player in this spot vs a passive player?

ETA: Hmmm, I guess an aggressive player would have raised the flop with an A or perhaps a Q so more likely slowplaying 33? I dunno, we still have top two pair and I'm usually 3betting that on turn unless lottsa action and terrible board.

I'd 3 bet the turn and call down if 4 bet. If he just calls my 3 bet, I'm bet/calling the river. You've got top two on one very dry board. Only 33 and 44 realistically have you beaten.

So do I.

I'm not really big on getting 4 bet on the turn and calling down against an unknown.

I can go to war more against him when I know more about him.

It does look like a 33 trap, but I might 3 bet anyway. At the place I play it usually works out better to assume that a player is bad until they prove otherwise. He might have a 2 or a 5 and be semi-bluffing.

I 3 bet and c/c river if 4 bet.

If he calls the 3 bet, I lead river.

hey mike,

put me in the call the turnraise, bet/call the river camp. 4 big bets going in on the turn and river is exactly what i want. i don't want to be exposed to putting in 5. in addition, we widen his range this way so our money goes in with higher average equity versus his possible holdings. the more i play hold em, the more i plan hands out with that being the primary focus(in marginal or close spots, that is).
