If I'm lurking into a new forum I usually sort by viewcount because those are sometimes the best threads -> usually means the thread has been linked to from other places. [/ QUOTE ] me too. this is a pretty bad change.

Unfortunately twice in the last 3 weeks this has increased the load on the forums to the point where they become unusable. This wastes all of our time. I guess as long as the sort by views functionality retains the ability to put the most viewed at the top it doesn't matter - and it looks like it does.
I'm 99.5% sure that it would keep the most views at the top since this would be an SQL call something like, "select top 100 ID from threads where forumID = @ForumID order by pageviews" and there's no reason to modify that stored procedure for the "1000+" cosmetic display change.
