Default Bankroll Guidelines?

i'm just starting out at limit holdem and was wondering if i am playing over my bankroll... i have 850 or so on FT and have been playing 6 handed or less 1/2 limit and some 2/4 hu

i know there are a variety of suggested bankroll #'s to abide by but what did any of you guys employ when first playing limit

thanks

a br of $850 is gunna be tough for 2/4 HU, with the variance in that game you'll rly want something at least 300BB+. Depending on ur skill & experience it may be just enough for 2/4 6m, however I'd srsly suggest $1K minimum & not a cent lower.

But I'm a pretty big br nit & I like to play with bout 500BB usually.

the faq answers this as well as many other posts. Not trying to be a jerk but try searching for bankroll. Loyalguard has a very good post on how to perform searches. Forum Searching Tips and Tricks Heck even try the micros library in the FAQ. Personally my bankroll playing 6-max is 300bb to 800bb.

If your win rate is plus you are probably fine at 1/2. I've never played at a limit where I had less than 500BB but I'm kind of nitty. Most say 300BB. All that assumes a plus win rate though. If you are losing, no bankroll is enough.

i dont have pokertracker or anything yet so i'm not sure about my winrate but i've made around 200 (100 from 2/4 hu and 100 from 1/2 6max) from limit the past week or so. built the other 600 dollar bankroll from limit razz and horse tournies and such

i guess i should move down though, but i think i'm way more +ev at HU then anything else, which is why i moved up in the first place. its really annoying that FT has no heads up 1/2 games.

All bank roll guidelines attempt to minimize your risk of ruin, that is, going busto.

The ease with which you can reload, your comfort with risk, how much the money means to you, are all questions only you can answer and all can change the number of BB you should have for a given level.

The standard answer is 300BB for the level you are playing full ring. 6-max and HU are more volatile than FR so increase that number to 400 or 500BB.

Thanks to my big (continuing) downswing, I'm going to increase my bankroll requirements from 300 to 500bb.

Moving down limits isn't fun. :s

Also, I really don't think 300 is near enough for 6-max.

Snitch, I think you hit on a key point. I personally am playing primarily at .5/1 and dabbling with .5/1 6-max and 1/2 on a $350 bankroll but if I get hammered by variance I won't have any issues with moving down to .25/.50 or even .05/.10 and grinding back up. In fact that's what I did after the fristing when I withdrew all but $25 from my account with no intention of reloading. However, if you're the type of person that really hates the thought of moving down in limits then your bankroll requirements should definitely increase and in that case I recommend something more in line with the 500BB guidelines that a lot of people here work with.
