what are the main differences between the two books?

[/ QUOTE ]

It would be great if at least once on threads like this, the actual title(s) of the book(s) could be given.

I have read somewhere between 10-15 poker books, but I certainly don't know the title of every book from the initials. For example, I know that NLHE must mean no limit hold 'em, but I have no idea what TAP might mean.

PNL means Professional No Limit and NLHTAP means No Limit Hold em Theory And Practice... if i were you i would get used to the abbreviations because there are a lot used on this site and not only for book titles... this might help

I highly recommend both.

NLHTAP requires you do most of your thinking away from the table, but IMO it's well worth it. I've definitely made $$ since reading it.

As for PNL, just finishing it up and will have to re-read to completely grasp it, but it's gonna' make some big time changes to my game.

NLHTAP is the salt PLN is the pepper and garlic. Now we have a tasty piece of chicken.

Is PNL mostly oriented towards cash games, if I am primarily a tourny player would TAP be more useful for me right now?

My understanding was that the Mid and High Stakes posters on this site thought there was a fair amount of bad advice in Sklansky's book.

[/ QUOTE ]

The thing that struck me about NLHTAP was that there was so little actual *advice* in it. It was all just concepts, which were for the most part intuitively obvious, if not explicity obvious.

No. Books geared toward tournament play would be most helpful.

Not to all my friend. There are those of us (sigh, me included) that just weren't born with the gift. But then again, my NLHE experience is far below a lot of posters on this board.

Alright, so what is the consensus here?

1. NLHTAP is the more advanced 2+2 NLH book and PNL makes it easier to understand NLHTAP.

2. PNL covers and addresses nearly everything in NLHTAP in a way that's much clearer and easier to understand.

There's no question I'll be purchasing PNL soon, I'm just curious as to where it fits...

I might agree with #1 but it's close.

I absolutely do NOT agree with #2.
