Default Weird feeling about my play, whatzit mean?

So, when I typically play poker I have this distinct sense. The feeling is that I am not winning or losing money normally, I'm just treading water...winning and losing small-medium pots, not really moving. I get the sense that I am just biding my time, staying afloat until someone makes a terrible play at me.

Is this normal? Are my small-poker skills seriously lacking? How can I learn to steadily win, rather than just wait for the big fish? Or is the waiting game the usual thing?

Yeah, additionally, it feels highly variant, like I just wait until they blow up or I blow up, or someone makes decent play and gets sucked out (and I run frigid).

that was another big thing for me

it was like my aa utg was a frightning hand because i always got 3 or so callers

but in time it always paid off if you keep playing

multitabling was another big help for me if you feel you can handle it

i went from 4 tables to 9-12 in a matter of days and saw those beautiful tilt plays by my opponents alot more

gl!

Maybe you feel like that because you dont get involved in stealing blind or the occasional well-planned bluff? Or maybe (and mostly for me anyways) you just almost never get the chance due to the calling stations on the table.

I think I know what you mean. I simply call it grinding. You should be able to win steadily by playing a lot of "small ball". It took me thousands of hands to realize that this is how you need to profit. Granted, I only play 25 and 50NL. But you won't always have opportunities to stack fish so you do need to learn how to get some value from middling hands, etc. I don't have any specific advice other than to keep playing, posting, and studying. iRock is spot on that mulitabling is the way to go...
