Default Floating

What is floating?

What is "raising light"? How is that different than raising?

Floating means that you check/call or call a bet on the flop with nothing to make a play on the next street. To give an example: let's say you smell a C-bet from villain to steal the pot, and you know he'll probably fold on the next street if you come over the top or so.

At least that's what I consider 'floating', correct me if I'm wrong pls!

Floating is when you call a bet with air/overs/etc with the intention of taking the pot away on a later street.

Ex:
You call a pfr in position w/ 87s.
You call a cb on a A52r.
The pfr checks to you and you bet turn and take the pot down.

Edit: you beat me to it.

No, raising light means raising with less than what normally would be thought of as a hand worthy of a raise.

Look at my example above.

If co pfr and you 3bet OTB with 87s this would be raising light.

Raising light is usually talking about 3betting from late position or from the blinds against a probable steal.

If you just call and raise his CB on that AXXr (which is a fine play) this is a straight bluff, not really raising light.
