What, objectively, would you like to accomplish with an improved education system? (i.e., what skills do you think are important and necessary for all children to spend their childhood assimilating?)

[/ QUOTE ]

You give kids HOPE, by instituted a system that has a light at the end of the tunnel that they can actually see.
There are many intelligent people born into poverty.

If we had assaulted the education problem in the inner cities in the 60's, we would not have near the level of crime & poverty we have today.

There have been a few teachers who have proven that kids can be turned around.

I believe that if the education system was assaulted in the 60's and that the government didn't give up, that we would be seeing kids from the ghetto become scientists in many different arts; math, science, medicine; to the point where the competition for jobs would make those born into upper class families uncomfortable.

Again: what mental skills are necessary to force our children to learn, and why?

Why is it necessary to force a child who has excellent spatial reasoning, an interest in tinkering and gadgetry, and a demonstrable affinity for a vocation like engineering...to learn a bunch of crap that he doesn't care about, like government-rehashed history, espanol, and shakespeare?
