This is my 3rd hand at table so villain is unknown. Thoughts on every street welcome

Is this what I've been missing all this time I've been playing NL? Shoving $83 into a $53 pot just seems ... wrong

It's not very much more than a pot-sized bet. You can minraise or 3bet to like $55 or somethingh if you want, its all pretty much the same thing.

Yeah I agree with the previous posters about shoving the flop.

Your line, excepting the above, is fine, and I think I take it about half the time, the other half of the time 4-betting pre and calling a shove.

I think either line works, and mixing up your play versus observant regs is smart.

Whatever the case, try to make your betting consistent with your made hands that you want to raise with in this spot vs your combo draws.

I would call with JJ vs almost everyone, and could talk myself into calling with lower pockets vs very aggressive players.
