Re: NFL Draft question
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Assume depth throughout the draft is equal for the SS and MLB positions. [/ QUOTE ] Then you flip a coin, because there's no reason to take a player just because he's the top prospect at his position. [/ QUOTE ] Jack, what if you pick 5th and the first 5 prospects are MLBs, and the 6th is a tie between MLB and SS? Is there an argument for taking one over the other, or just flip? [/ QUOTE ] Just look at the usual pattern of the draft. Usually by the time you get to your first safety, you have multiple QBs, OL, and DL taken. No team says "this is the best player at his position." They say "which player can help my team the most?" |

Re: NFL Draft question
Would you rather date the 5th best-looking waitress at Hooters or the best looking waitress at Denny's -- if they were identical twins?

Re: NFL Draft question
The answer is either it doesn't matter or it depends, and since you refuse to talk about why it depends, then it doesn't matter.

Re: NFL Draft question
This all depends on which team is drafting.
Lions: Flip a coin between the MLB and SS, then take a WR anyway. Eagles: Flip a coin between the MLB and SS, then take a lineman anyway. Redskins: Don't have the pick because they traded it already. Houston: [censored] it up somehow. Giants: Trade all their picks to move up two spots in the draft, then [censored] up and take the worst player. |

Re: NFL Draft question
[ QUOTE ]
Is it correct to pick the SS, without hesitation, because you are getting the draft-classes "best" SS, as opposed to 2nd best MLB? [/ QUOTE ] Of course not. A player's position ranking is irrelevant--you need to evaluate the players holistically(Need, Position Scarcity and Value Over Replacement Player) to make a good pick. |

Re: NFL Draft question
Didn't read thread, but...
these three are available Peyton Manning (QB) Tom Brady (QB) Ron Dayne (HB) Manning gets picked first. You need a QB and HB equally. Do you take Tom Brady or Ron Dayne? |
