Default What the heck happened to George Seifert?

Speaking of old coaches coming back to the pros earlier...

This is Seifert's coaching record in the NFL

| Reg. Season | Playoffs |
+----------+--------------+----------+
| Year TM | W L T | W L |
+----------+--------------+----------+
| 1989 sfo | 14 2 0 | 3 0 |
| 1990 sfo | 14 2 0 | 1 1 |
| 1991 sfo | 10 6 0 | 0 0 |
| 1992 sfo | 14 2 0 | 1 1 |
| 1993 sfo | 10 6 0 | 1 1 |
| 1994 sfo | 13 3 0 | 3 0 |
| 1995 sfo | 11 5 0 | 0 1 |
| 1996 sfo | 12 4 0 | 1 1 |
| 1999 car | 8 8 0 | 0 0 |
| 2000 car | 7 9 0 | 0 0 |
| 2001 car | 1 15 0 | 0 0 |

What the heck happened at the end there? He went from, percentage wise the winningest coach in NFL history to BUSTO in a season.

And I haven't heard or seen him since. Anyone know what happened to him?

He took over a Carolina team that had been 7-9 and 4-12 the previous two years, so the first two years there were improvements. The third year everything fell apart, losing most of the games in the second half. Some think the team quit on him.
Think he does "motivational speaking" now. I know he likes to fish.

The guy was handed the keys to the kingdom in SF. Is there any reason to think he can build a winner on his own?

2001...what a disaster here. Just no talent.

One, he helped build the defense on SF.
Two, he inherited the weakest SF SuperBowl champion (only 10-6 regular season and a squeaker in the SB) and improved the record to 14-2 and demolished the Broncos.
Three, by the time he won his second SB, 1994, the team was his, not Walsh's.

Chris Weinke and salary cap hell

He also inherited a terrible salary cap situation if I remember correctly.

Actually, thinking about it some more, the undoing of George Seifert was Ray Carruth. People talk about Vick being a coach killer, Carruth takes the cake on that one.
