What do you do when you are card dead?
You are into the 6th or 7th level of a large (250+) $100.00 online MTT. You've had very few playable hands and the hands you do get only win blinds. Your M continues to get lower and lower. Any thoughts or ideas on when to make a move with a marginal hand or thoughts about waiting will be appreciated.

Re: What do you do when you are card dead?
try and prevent yourself from going below 5x the total blinds and antes. between 5-8 blinds you can still hurt all but the biggest stacks. If the pot is unopened push all in with any pair 5 or above and A-10 K-J type of hands. You will either steal the blinds (result!) double up (great result!!!) or go out (booooo!!!) but its better to burn out than fade away. In this situation you are looking for fold equity which is why getting in first is so imprtant. Try not to steal from big stacks but make sure not to steal from really short stacks as they will be desperate and prob call.
If you fall below 5x blinds you can push unopened pots with all but the very worst of hands 10-6 or J-5? shove it in and see what happens. |

Re: What do you do when you are card dead?
Hero (BB) has around 14 BBs left
Hijack raises, Button calls, SB calls, Hero (BB) pushes with any two cards. A push is also fine if the SB folds. Read the anthology atop the page. Read the threads on squeezing and restealing |

finding a nice resteal spot every so often is the way to go.
usually a push against an aggressive LPer. You dont want to go completely overboard on the resteals because people will call you light but done at a few key moments can be beautiful. |

thats pretty but I dont think its very helpful to this situation getting blinded away is the worst thing that can happen to you.

Re: What do you do when you are card dead?
Actually I was referring to the hands that got him in that situation. I think people loosen up too early in many (not all) cases when they believe they are card dead and start calling raises with hands they would normally throw away to try to catch that monster. IMO this creates the SS situation sooner than it would otherwise and has the added bonus of making the guy who is calling your all in with AQ easier because it is costing him less to make the call. Then he either knocks you out with his 55 or doubles you and you are still short.

i like pushing over the top of LAGs who have raised many pots, especially if there is a caller leaving you in position for a squeeze play.

take chances tho, its better to bust giving yourself than to get blinded away and just pretty much give away the tourney.
