Weird display flicker/flashing problem

I recently got a Macbook Pro (first revision) and I have my 24" LCD monitor hooked up to it (DVI).

About every 10 minutes, something weird happens with the screen. It stays on, but it looks like another screen flickers on it for a split second. Sort of like what happens in Fight Club.

I don't think it's the monitor because it happens on my laptop screen as well. I reinstalled the display drivers but that didn't change anything.

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried googling this but I keep getting results that aren't relevant to my problem.
