Default WTF News and Commentary - June

This gets the thread off on a weird foot...
Home Depot Fired Workers For Catching Thieves

Wait, what??? Yes, you read it right.

[ QUOTE ]
An internal memo from Home Depot outlines that associates cannot accuse, detain, chase or call the police on any customer for shoplifting.

[/ QUOTE ]

This will come in handy when I need that new snowblower...

Can they be making so much money that shoplifting really isn't an issue? How on earth can a superchain like HD have such a policy???

Someone fill me in...

Have you heard the news about Nifong? He's been disbarred.

What a freaking nightmare for those boys and their families. God.

[ QUOTE ]
The committee said Nifong manipulated the investigation to boost his chances of winning his first election for Durham County district attorney. In doing so, he committed "a clear case of intentional prosecutorial misconduct" that involved "dishonesty, fraud, deceit and misrepresentation."

I believe that Wal-Mart no longer calls the cops if they catch someone shoplifting lower-cost items where the cost of dealing with the police is more than the value of the item being stolen.

Among other things, I believe it includes lost productivity due to employees having to deal with the cops.

Hmong coup attempt

I'm just posting this link here because I have a few Hmong friends, and am saddened by how they were betrayed by the U.S. government after they fought for us in Vietnam.

Those Hmong who didn't make it out of Laos to the U.S. or Thailand are being massacred in the Laotian mountains. Videos documenting this are easy to find on YouTube.

So I say, Go General Vang, [censored] the Lao butchers, take 'em down! There is a large number of people in the Sacramento area (non-Hmong) who feel the same. They staged a rally at the Capital the other day.

Oh. And [censored] the U.S. State Department too. I guess the Hmong don't rate highly in the Vietnam cleanup pecking order, since the government has been willing to let 700 or so American POW and MIA's fend for themselves over there the past 30 odd years.

These guys are virtually a worst-case immigrant scenario. They still get caught trying to kidnap brides, and have the highest welfare percentage by far of any ethnic or racial group.
