O Villian! Why dost thou river me so?
Getting 3-outted is such a bummer. Here's a typical example from earlier today. I realize that it's just poker and in the long run, the percentages will even things out. But it still can be a frustrating bump in the road when it happens:
Full Tilt Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.50/$1 5 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $129.20 CO: $198.75 Button: $228.15 SB: $144.60 Hero: $16.10 Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 folds, Button raises to $3.5, SB folds, Hero calls. Defending my blind with suited semi-premium against a button steal is an easy decision. Flop: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($7.5, 2 players) Hero checks, Button checks. I flop top pair, good kicker here. I check it in case he's got an overpair. He raised in early position, and that can often mean big pair. He checks so that means he probably doesn't have a pair. Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($7.5, 2 players) Hero checks, Button checks. I plan to check-raise him out of his seat when I pick up the flush draw. I fear he smelled my trap. I have a tricky image at the table most often. I usually pick off delayed continuation bets, so he probably had a note on me. River: K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($7.5, 2 players) Hero checks, Button checks. And finally, I check the river to see where I stand in the hand. And....drumroll please: Villian had K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]!!! and he wins the pot. He only had 3 outs to win it on the river, because if a Queen came, I'd have two pair to his one pair. I'm very surprised and somewhat glad he didn't bet the river because I would have had a very hard decision regarding calling or folding. Alas, we shovel these pots back and forth, and from time to time, the laws governing probabilities rear up and kick us in the upper thigh. But, we must soldier on, enjoying our time spent playing the beautiful game.... |

Re: Villian rivers his 3 outter
not to mention, only 7 bucks. hardly terrible. try going all in on your 7's on the flop, then the king comes out and you watch the money walk away.
