Default Requesting To See Mucked Showdown Hand.....

I was playing the other night, and I go to showdown with this guy. He flips his cards over and I muck. He promptly asks the dealer to see my cards. It happens, so no big deal.

Next time I go to showdown (three players, and he's in this hand), the "other" player shows first, the guy that asked to see my hand the first time flings his cards into the muck, and as I muck mine, he once again asks to see my cards (his are irretreivable). Dealer obliges, and though he's starting to get on my nerves a little, still no problem. He's the only guy asking to see mucked hands, and he's only asking to see mine.

Next it's me and another guy at showdown, he shows first, I muck, and the guy (not involved in the hand this time) asks to see my hand. Before I can object, the dealer shows my cards. I ask the dealer to kindly not reveal my hand unless requested by a participant in the hand. He apologizes, says he thought the guy was involved (he folded to a river bet), and we continue.

Now he is officially on my nerves. I'm in seat 1 (jerk is in seat 7), so I quietly say to the dealer "Everytime he goes to showdown with me and tries to muck, I want to see his hand." I know all of the dealers, this guy is a stranger (to me, at least), and the dealer nods his head.

Sure enough, the very next hand this guys goes to showdown with me and tries to fling his cards into the muck. The dealer says "This gentleman has asked to see your hand, sir." The guy mumbles a bit, and the dealer flips his cards over.

A bit goes by, and I go to showdown with this guy, I flip, he tries to muck, I say "Show me his cards", dealer exposes his cards, and the guy is really, really pissed. I'm looking at his stack and drooling, because I KNOW what's about to happen.

One more time, about 4 hands later: Jerk to showdown, tries to muck, dealer flips his cards, (this time I folded to a river bet) and the guy is about to have a seizure.
Jerk: "Why'd you show my cards?!"
Dealer: "The player in 1 asked to see your hand."
Jerk: "He wasn't involved! CALL THE FLOOR!"
Dealer: "FLOOR!"

After a brief discussion, the dealer explains that he thought I was still involved in the hand (I know I'm wrong, btw). Dealer is dutifully scolded, floor leaves, I tip the dealer $5, and mission accomplished: this guy is on a full tilt rampage.

He's got about $1200 behind, which becomes zero over the next 2 hours......

So, how do you guys handle players that regularly ask to see your mucked hands?

That's just awesome. Setting the dealer up for the mistake. $1200 to zero. I hoped you got a good chunk of that.

I tilted a guy once by requesting he not rabbit hunt on pots I won. "If you fold to my turn bet, then you don't deserve to see the river."

Good times... good times.

if they do it more than once, I usually ask them -nicely - who they suspect of cheating.

The standard rule is that any player dealt into the hand may request to see hands eligible for showdown (Robert's/section 3/the showdown/5), though it's possible your casino has a different rule on that, or that the floor didn't really know the rule (all too common).

The purpose of the rule is to prevent collusion or other cheating. If a player asks to see your mucked cards more than once, ask for the floorman and politely explain to him that player X has asked to see your mucked cards twice now and unless he suspects I'm cheating, I'd like to request that he stop.

I didn't get as much as I would have liked, but the best part of this story came at the end....

There is a couple that plays together regularly. She was to Jerk's left, her husband is to her left. She redefines tight -- when she's involved in a hand, you can narrow her down to about 6 possible holdings. She literally (I'm not making this up) uses some kind of rock as her card cap. Her husband is a pretty good player, so I think she just comes along for the ride.

Anyway, the couple always have about $1k behind each. Jerk is down to his last $500 or so. It's to him pre-flop, and he pushes. She moves so fast she hits the straw in her drink and it goes flying onto the felt. There is no question what she's holding.

Jerk actually flips over 9-3o before the dealer runs the cards, and she, of course, flips over A-A.

Flop comes x-9-x

Jerk jumps up and is practically screaming "I've got outs! I've got outs!"

Turn: 3

If I already didn't like this guy, I'd almost be embarassed for him. He's "YEAH BABY! I GOT IT NOW!" and other blatherings...

River: A

Now, this lady is pretty classy. She hasn't and doesn't say a word this whole time. The guy looks like someone just hit him with a stun gun. She turns to him and dead-pans:

"Are you buying back in?"

The whole table rolled. It may have been the funniest thing I have ever witnessed at a poker table.

I'm still wondering if Jerk's head exploded on his way out of the casino.....

A player is "involved in the hand" if they are DEALT IN, regardless of if/when they fold.

Any called hand at showdown must be shown to any dealt-in player that requests it. The rule is to prevent collusion, though people abuse it and use it for information.

Also, that guy was a NIT. If he's irritating you with his "I wanna see' crap, ask to see his mucked hands *especially* when you know he's got a crap busted draw.
