What is a "Kill" im pretty much just a holdem player, but I am looking to start playing some of the other games specifically O8 as I beat the low limits online

A kill is an extra blind to be posted by the winner of the previous hand. Kill blinds are triggered by conditions: (a) one player wins the entire pot, & (b) the pot has to be a certain size (example: 10 big bets), (c) the betting structure increases for the hand with a kill blind (example: If you're playing $10/$20 with full kill the betting would go to $20/$40).
Note: (1)some rooms play a 1/2 Kill to cut down on the size of the kill structure. (2) the kill games tend to generate more action.

As an addition, since the kill blind is paid by whoever won the last pot, it is generally not one of the normal blinds. The big blind and small blind must also call the kill blind. At some casinos, the kill blind acts last, and in others he acts in turn. In Las Vegas I believe most casinos have it act in turn. I don't have enough experience to know whether acting in turn or last benefits solid players, but I tend to dislike the kill button business as a whole. I notice it increases variance and decreases the value of scoops.

I also believe it cuts deep into the value of big scoop-oriented hands in early position (AK23ds, for example), since if you hit your big scoop you will have to post a large blind the next hand, and be out of position to boot. But on the other hand acting in turn on the kill blind gives you the opportunity to raise, forcing people to call a whopping 2BB to see a flop, and thus greatly raising the chances of getting the action shorthanded or not seeing a flop at all.

Also some casinos have a kill blind come out if a player wins two smaller pots in a row.

I wouldn't mind a discussion of general kill strategy, as it's something I don't have too much experience with.

I am on the fence about kill pots and if I like them at all. Usually I stay away from calling them without a premium holding. They are nice to win but I wonder if there is a different strategy when one comes up?

The rooms I play normally always play kills in LO8b. The optimal way a room should play kill blinds is to have the KB act last(he has a forced bet and should get last action). I have played both ways.
The KB should not alter the way you play. You still count outs, pot odds, position, & player reads. If you have a bad hand & face a raise, does the pot offer you the correct odds to continue? You still make most of your decisions based on EV outlook.
I loved winning the pots to put up the KB. (a) I won a large scoop pot, (b) if I win the next pot, I'll probably win another large pot or fold for the cost of the blind. I just play fundamental sound poker. I love it when I hear players say "I don't play KB hands unless I have premium cards." Half the job of reading the player is given out before the hand is dealt.
KB games are excellent situations to make money. We make most of our profits from others mistakes (not brillance on our own). When others are worried about the size of the bets, they are more likely to make decision errors. Sounds like +EV for me.
