I just read half this and skipped to the end to say that, if Aaron is right, then he was never "berating" Vanessa at all. She was berating the other guy, as if she played the hand brilliantly and it was his fault that she didn't win, and Aaron was saying that this couldn't be right because she played the hand badly. Again, if Aaron's story is closer to the truth, he was in fact as clinical and logical as possible, and trying to decrease the level of emotion and berating, not to add to it himself.
