NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
Looking back over a mistake, hoping to learn some lessons
Mainly what I'm looking for is feedback on my line of thought; If it makes sense or am I making bad plays based on theories I don't quite understand. Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.05/$0.10 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter) SB: $4.35 Hero (BB): $11.95 UTG: $15.05 CO: $1.35 BTN: $4.50 Preflop: Hero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 Players) 2 folds, BTN calls $0.10, SB calls $0.05, Hero raises to $0.40, BTN folds, SB calls $0.30 Flop: ($0.90) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) SB checks, Hero bets $0.30, SB calls $0.30 Turn: ($1.50) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players) SB bets $0.60, Hero raises to $1.20, SB calls $0.60 River: ($3.90) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players) SB checks, Hero bets $2.45, SB calls all-in for $2.45 Pot Size: $8.80 ($0.85 Rake) SB had T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (a straight, Ace high) and WON (+$3.60) Hero had A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (two pair, Aces and Kings) and LOST (-$4.35) Preflop Play I raised 4xBB instead of 5xBB or 5xBB+1 because I wanted to isolate with AKo; and I felt 4xBB was enough to knock one player out. (Which played out that way as well.) Flop Play The flop texture seemed completely harmless, 3 suits and no straight possibilities. I figure I have the best hand, and I also figure if I bet 50-75% of the pot, he'll probably fold 80% of the time. I bet around 30% of the pot because I figured he'd call that bet 75% of the time, and I have the best hand. Turn Play In my opinion, my biggest mistake was here. I minraised to $3.30 when he bet, with $.60 to go, giving him correct pot odds to call the straight draw. I didn't consider all the hands my opponent could have. I mainly thought he might have a pair of jacks, but I didn't consider the possibility of a straight draw. (Or KJ 2 pair, for that matter.) River Play Again, I didn't see the straight possibility and I had top 2 pair. I think I would have bet the river no matter what; but my biggest mistake was not raising more on the turn, so when he doesn't make his straight I'd get paid off more. Thoughts? Thanks ya'll |

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
i dont see a huge msitake here, how do you read him to hit runner runner straight from nothing on the flop. mabey raise more on turn by like .60 or .80. I dont see how you dont stack yourself in the end though.

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
Bet 60c on the flop, and probably shove the turn.
Valuebetting the river is very necessary though. |

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
Raise more on the turn, none of this minraise garbage.

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
I really dont like betting small on the flop to string him along, I would make that play if I had a monster hand, top pair is good but not great, I dont want him to hang around for cheap and suck out on me with 2 pair or some other draw

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
Preflop. Ignorance of basics. Need to bet more.
Flop. Same. Turn. Same. River is only all right street. |

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
preflop is fine, he's first one in
flop - don't minbet it, I'd do something like .7 Turn - call it, I wouldn't raise it River - Raise just a little more (unless u feel 1/2 pot is ideal), but river is the only good street Crovax |

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
Bet more on the flop. Given how short he is shove over his turn bet.

Re: NL10 - Top Pair Mistake Review
The min raise on the should be a shove if you feel your ahead, especially given his stack size.
