Who has the money to fund science besides corporations?

Anybody. Everyone that pays taxes does now why don't you just let them do it of there own voluntary accord rather then force them to do it?

Surely you're not suggesting that all science should be funded by corporations?

Case in point: all the junk science regarding the tobacco industry.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like you would value some "real" science.

Why does the existence of junk science bother you? You know it's junk, so ignore it.

[/ QUOTE ]

The problem is that people in general don't ignore junk science. People used to hear that smoking may not cause cancer from the junk scientists who were supported by tobacco and some people believed it.

Would you honestly be volunteering to donate money to science?

Uhm... the government gets its money from the people. Therefore, anything the government is able to fund can also be funded by the people.

Are you saying you wouldn't? You'd be fine with using violent force to make others fund it, but not with voluntarily doing so yourself?

How much of the population would be jumping up and down to donate to science?

I suspect if what you are advocating were to be put into practice, the US would fall waaaaayyyyy behind the world in the scientific arena and you'd have a mass exodus of scientists from the US into other countries as they weren't able to get their research funded through public donations.

Sure, after I had a few other needs and wants satisfied. If I don't why should you force me to?
