You'll make more money playing .5/1 online than playing 1/2 live assuming you're a decent player.

But you need to understand that you will not be making 300 bucks a night.

QFT.

Its very hard to understand at first the nature of grinding away at live poker. Events that you consider indicative of how "good" you're running i.e. suckouts, are not great measures of actually how good you're running. A couple key matchups here or there could account for all if not more than all of your profit thus far. You probably could make ok money in this game and maybe struggle by, but its pretty conceivable that you could have a losing MONTH in this game too.

I've been making almost 2 buyins an hour online 8-12 tabling over the last 8,000 hands, which is maybe what you could play in a whole summer live. You feel like "this is so sustainable" but common sense should dictate otherwise. Granted I play against retards, but Phil Ivey probably wouldn't have the expected winrate that I've been running at. The first step is really to adjust your expectations and trust the wisdom of those who have logged half a million hands as to what a long run expected winrate should be.

If you need to make money, don't do it. Playing poker out of necessity is a terrible way to spend the summer, especially on a short roll.

However, if you are just looking for a job for some "fun money" and kill some time, go for it. Digging ditches sucks monkey balls.

This seems like a bad idea if you need the money. Poker becomes much less enjoyable when you need the money to make the rent. See Limon's threads about attainable hourly rates in live games... It is surprisingly low.
