noob wondering about variance

I’ve been lurking for a while and decided it was time to come clean and say Hi.

I’ve been interested in poker for about three years, but not played for all of that time. Donked around in limit. Read a few books. All standard stuff, I’m sure.

Only ever played Limit, but keen to try No-Limit.

Question: which gives rise to the worse variance – Limit or No-Limit?
I always assumed it was No-Limit, but the other day someone told me it was Limit.
Is that true?
And if so, why?
