($27t) AQo w/ 12bb from button
I am constantly running into this problem with 12 to 15bb. I don't know if I should push or make a standard raise (2.5bb). Pushing is nice, because it provides the most FE and takes down the pot a high % of the time. Making a std raise is nice b/c it invites weaker hands to push over the top (that would otherwise be folded to a push). It also disguises my bluffs later on. What would you guys do in this spot?

Re: ($27t) AQo w/ 12bb from button
It depends on how tight the blinds are, if they are tight I am putting a standard 2.5 raise, if they are loose I am pushing hoping they call with AT, AJ.

Pooshing is so bad, do you wanna risk your tournament life with AQo ?
[for all others, read the recent thread from GreenKoolAid and you get what i mean] Ok, now a serious answer. I have and had the same problem with these kinds of hands. I usually do the following: a) push and show my hand after i picked up the blinds (because you wont get called that often). Its a good advertising, because most people wont see the difference between 10 and 15BB b) make it 250 with the intention of calling a push. If you get called you know that Villain is a moron or has QQ+. Regardless you should push any flop. The 250 raise also helps you to disguise future hands, when you do steal with that raise (with the intention to fold). |

Showing your hands is -EV, and not for the reason you think I'm thinking.
