This is a pf raise if Villain were OTB and stealing ~70% of the time.

OK ... let's refrase my question:
4 handed with an aggro fellow like villian, is mixing up your game like this to keep him in line acceptable ? |

Re: 2/4 Q8s in SB vs CO raise ... let\'s boogie
I think it's okay if you have a tight image. In that case you take a slightly -EV play and you lessen its damage with increased fold equity plus you increase the amount of action you get in future hands when you revert back to playing legitimate starters.
But this should be the exception to the rule. (You also need to consider villain's steal range, not just his overall PFR. I suspect there are still some bad LAGTAGs at 2/4 that play 32/22 PF by opening up their EP raising hands (JTo, A6o, etc.) instead of increasing their stealing range. Against such opponents, 3betting here is bad, because part of what cuts into the -EV of the play is the small chance that you dominate a hand like 98 or Q7s and the chance he has a weak hand like K7s or A4o that can't continue to the river without improvement.) |

That makes the play a bit more interesting IMO. Still, playing this hand OOP can't be +EV against a PFR. I tend to just play ABC poker at 2/4. |

Q8s is garbage against an UTG raise whoever it comes from. Just get rid and move on. The only use for q8s is to steal from the button and that's it. The best players play around 10% of hands from the sb. You need a normal raising hand from MP vs utg rai to pop him here otherwise go away!

Re: 2/4 Q8s in SB vs CO raise ... let\'s boogie
Romulet, I am not playing one of the best players
A player like Stox opens a lot more than 10% from UTG according to his book And finally It is fourhanded, so UTG is actually also CO ... do the best players only open 10% from CO when it is fourhanded as CO suddenly becomes UTG ???? |

Re: 2/4 Q8s in SB vs CO raise ... let\'s boogie
it's a tad loose. it's +EV if he gives up easily and your image is no bad. it's -EV if he does not give up easily or your image is laggy.
comments about him being UTG are stupid and i hate when people say that. the poker hand converter does not dictate your open raising range. work back from the button... the guy is in the cutoff and is probably raising about 35% here. |
