Re: Can you NL players embarrass the MTT players? (X-post)
I'll take a stab.
The BB qualifying via satellite is the 'key' to the hand. Villain either has a hand strong enough to slow play on the flop and slow play again on the turn or a had a hand in which he backed into (TT). After the mis-bet, his hand is strong enough to withstand a re-raise or all-in bet. I'll guess QsJs or TT. Also, the Armenian player 'likes to bluff, get tricky, and overvalues the importance of reads,' so maybe Villain is playing off of this a bit and hoping he does something silly. TT is certainly a possibility. He may have simply been stunned and forgot to consider the option to raise. I don't think he has AK, because I think he would make a raise 'to protect his hand' or 'push out the draws'. AA and KK coincide with this thinking, but they are stronger hands, so maybe he did intend to slow play again and hope for the best. I am confident the key to the hand is that he won a satellite and playing in his first WPT event. He plays straight-forward. He has the best hand. If he has AK or worse, he is not going to broke. He's happy to be there and enjoying his conversation about football. Fold or hope he has AK, call and c/f river. |

Re: Can you NL players embarrass the MTT players? (X-post)
I think AK of spades is likely here. He was likely raising before the flop with a strong hand since the Armenian guy was already in the pot and he likely would have noticed how he was playing. He may have hoped to get a check-raise in on the flop, but with it getting checked around and somewhat of a scare card coming on the turn he was probably content to just call with the nut draw (just like sklansky says to do when you have a draw to the nuts in a nlhe tournament). If he accidentally raised, he probably wasn't too upset about it since he had such a strong hand and a draw to the nuts. If this is the case I like calling the raise to see if a spade, ace, or king comes on the river. If one does you can c/f. If not I like betting out 1/2-2/3 of the pot.

Re: Can you NL players embarrass the MTT players? (X-post)
justin's "key" was that there are 2 possibilities going on here:
1. hes angle shooting 2. hes not angle shooting if hes angle shooting this is a clear fold. if hes not angle shooting, call and check fold may be correct but there is nothing wrong with folding. looking at both of these possibilities together it becomes clear that folding is the correct play. |
