Doesn't the HVR-1600 have the ability to record from two channels at once, or watch one record on the other? That's the one I'm looking at now since you are the second person to recommend Hauppauge and that one is HD.

I'm not up-to-date anymore, 2 years ago there were some Athlon mobiles that fit into normal slot1 mainboards. But there are always special mainboards for mobile cpus.

I also can recommend Hauppage tuners.

If you use Media Center, then yes you can record one and watch the other. Media Center sees the HVR-1600 as two cards. Unfortunately, I cannot give anecdotal advice with that, because I use XP x64bit and the proprietary WinTV2000 that comes with the card. The quality however is impeccable, and I will recommend this card to anyone. I bought it for $64 after shipping, just had to wait for the rebate. Retail is in the mid $80's. IMO, there is no comparative card, even up to $150.

btw, i'd ditch the speakers. get real speakers and a real receiver. minimum 5 1/4 inch drivers. and it will sound 100x better, reproducing the entire frequency range (although your room's acoustics will matter a lot, but that can be treated).

i don't know what your budget is, but i'll give you some ideas for what i think are great prices for set-ups that will sounds miles ahead of what you're considering. No comparison, even with entry level real speakers. I can't imagine watch movies with the logitech setup - too much of the frequency range would be missing.

here's an example (i put a little package together just for you):

JBL bookshelf speakers ($99 a pair): $200 for 4 speakers

JBL Center : $130

Pioneer VSX-917 Receiver : $290

Dyaton 12 inch subwoofer : $135

so, total is about $750 not including shipping, but now you're getting real sound powered by a real receiver, not some computer speakers getting their juice from your computer or the sub. audio is expensive, and i only showed you entry level. but it's worth it if you listen to music, watch dvds, game. makes such a difference.

Later down the line I'm sure I'll be interested in some higher quality speakers, but fortunately I'm still naive enough to enjoy $150 speakers.

as far as HDMI cables, they're all the same. they pass a digital signal (ones and zeroes). i would find the cheapest and buy it. this site is known for good low price cables.
