Comedic Actors Who Always Nail Small Roles.
There are certain actors, who are pretty much always funny, yet they are never get big enough to be the star, but are always stuck in hilarious supporting roles.
Two guys who I think fits this bill really well are Kevin Nealon http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005265/ He is by far the best character in Weeds. Although he was overshadowed by Sandler, Myers, Carvey, etc. he was still hilarious. Whenever I see him guest star on a random tv show or make a cameo in a movie he is almost always hilarious. And Stephen Root http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0740535/ Stephen Root is best known for playing Milton in Office Space and although everyone thinks Milton is hilarious he isn't really the star of the movie imo. Similarly although he was hilarious in Newsradio Phil Hartman over shadowed him and one could argue that Dave Foley and Andy Dick did as well. Also I just realized that he does the voice of Bill Dautrive and Buck Strickland on King of the Hill. I think a good way to measure these guys are when you are watching a sitcom and you they are guest starring in the credits you instantly become happy. What's funny about these guys is a lot of times they succeed because they haven't tried being stars. When you look at all the former SNL cast members who have movies which bombed at the box-office or sitcoms, which failed horribly, it's often better to be the guys who remain as a second fiddle, but do it very well. |
