-Acropolis

-Colosseum

-Eiffel Tower

-Alhambra

-Great Wall

-Angkor

-Eiffel Tower

-Statue of Liberty

-Machu Picchu

I think Angkor blows the others I've seen away by far with Machu Picchu and the Great Wall following closely behind.

I don't know about The Great Wall imho. Sections of wall built over hundreds of years that mostly connected but not really, and has since deteriorated quite a bit? I don't know where the 'Wonder' is in that personally.

seen any other 5,000 mile walls that scale mountain sides? I think it's impressive - and until very recently it was the only man made construction visible from space. There isn't a single thing on the list that could rightly bump it into 8th.

That said, I think the Redeemer seems an odd addition to the other 7 which seem very reasonable new wonders.

Gotta add my 2 cents for the Hoover Dam. Any geeks would love the 'Hard Hat Tour' (not sure if they still run them). Something like 20+ construction and engineering innovations were developed during the project that are still used to this day.

I got the biggest kick out of seeing the world's largest Cincinnati machine mill, on site to manufacture impellers (because it would be near impossible to transport impellers that size LDO). It was 3+ stories tall.

The pyramids have special honorary status. I'm not sure they were even in the voting.

After careful consideration, the New7Wonders Foundation designates the Pyramids of Giza—the only remaining of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World—as an Honorary New7Wonders Candidate.

Therefore, you cannot vote for the Pyramids of Giza as part of the New7Wonders campaign.

I suppose that Ra hasn't been a deciding factor in a death in quite some time, so perhaps that makes a little sense. The Jesus statue it is!

If anything from the US deserves consideration, it should be Mount Rushmore. Definitely a technological and architectural feat for the time.

My list:

Acropolis
Hagia Sophia
Colosseum
Eiffel Tower
Petra
Great Pyramids
Statue of Liberty (as a New Yorker, I've never actually been there, but I'm counting it anyway)

Of those, Petra was by far the most impressive.

In Johnstown, PA I rode the World's Steepest Vehicular Inclined Plane.
Says it right there at the base of the little mountain-side.

In Meadville, PA I ate at the World's Largest Perkins restaurant.

In Fairbanks, AK I ate the world's northern-most Denny's (says it right there on the receipt).

If these aren't modern world wonders I don't what are.

Down with the Acropolis!
Yay for World's Largest Perkins Restaurant!

The Hoover Dam is terrible. By far the worst tour I have ever been on. If you like concrete you might enjoy it overwise stay far away.

The Great Pyramid is amazing.

The Alhambra is amazing.

The Statue of Liberty is no more amazing than the Gateway Arch, or the Transamerica Building. Good grief.
